Hair loss after giving birth?

I had a baby 3 months ago and my hair has been failing out like crazy. I was taking my prenatals but I stopped because they make me hungry and I've gained back some of the weight that I lost. Can someone recommend some vitamins or something that I can do to stop the hair loss and make my hair strong and healthy again?

To give you more detailed about my hair type, Im african american and my hair is relaxed...I need treatments suitable for my hair type...

There are many reasons u might be having hair loss.

Are you or have you any of the following:

Change of Diet - resulting in lack proper nutrients

Stress/Baby Blues - the stress hormones are unbalanced and your body can release insufficient chemicals to maintain stability. Therefore, causing u 2 change the way u act or eat, sleep, etc.

ALSO, your body is so use to the prenatal vitamins for the upkeep of your body and your baby's health while your were prego. When you suddenly stopping supplying that nutrient after 9 months, it threw it off track. Try to substitute with another kind of vitamin. Try a Centrum for Women or something that is rich in calcium and beta carotene.

I got to thinking that all this dry cold weather was another option for your hair to get dryed out and brittle. When you brush it, the hair is so dry it breaks eaiser and it may appear that it is thining.

Thanx for the points. I'm a mother of a 2 %26amp; 3 year old. Report It

For a lot of women this is normal, even more so for women of our culture who have relaxers. 1st off, stop getting the relaxers for a while. Your hair needs a good hot oil treatment and you either need to consider braids or a natural hairdo until you hair finds its strength again.

My sister and I had that problem, too. My doctor said that is was normal b/c your body is trying to restraiten out your hormones. It eventually stopped falling out and is back to it's prepregnant, thick state! My son is now 10 months old.

This normal for post pregnancy. It will stop soon. To keep it healthy and growing however, go to HSN.com and order the Andrew Lessman's Healthy Hair Skin and Nails supplements. They really work. Read all the testimonials!

Hormonal changes can do that to you at anytime, but it is common for some hair loss to occur after giving birth. My advice is to check with your doctor though. Not only will you be able to get some answers, but if nothing else, it'll make you feel better.

Hugs and btw, congratulations on the birth of your child!

The bad news is, is that no matter what you do your hair will fall out like crazy after you have a had a baby. The reason for this is that normally your hair goes through a process of growing and falling out, a few hairs a day. However, while you are pregnant the cycle stops and you do not lose any hair for 9 months, so their is a lot of catching up to do. The good news is that after about 4-6 months your hormones, which have dropped considerably, will normalize and your hair will go back to it's normally pre-pregnancy cycle. You will also find that you have a lot of new hair growth all at once as well which will take a while to fully grow out. As for your hunger, if you are breast feeding keep in mind that it is normal for you to be hungry as you need extra calories to produce milk. It takes a while for everything to go back to normal after having a baby give yourself another month or so and you should notice a decrease in your appetite. Make sure you take some sort of vitamin supplement, especially if you are nursing. Nature's Choice makes a good one. As for hair treatments, try Ojon, you can get it at Sephora. It works amazingly well on dry or damaged hair and has an incredible date palm oil smell.

I haven't just had a baby but I did lose my hair twice back to back called myself getting a perm at the age of 36 so I do feel you I first started out using aphogee it's been working and I'm keeping it braided for a while this is my first perm but I also dyed my hair 3yrs ago and went through the same thing my hair was everything to me right under my 3 sons I guess I praised it a lil to much plus I went behind my beauticians back she%26amp; the world told me not to get it and I didn't listen. Hope ur hair grows back keep the faith I know the both of ours will!

It's completely normal to lose some hair after giving birth. It'll eventually slow down. I started taking the vitamin MSM and it help with so many things especially if your breastfeeding. I'm sure it is to do with hormones - apparently alcohol and a diet more than 20% fat increase hormones such as testosterone and estrogen or progesterone, while being pregnant raises the other of estrogen and progesterone - I'm not sure which of these might be responsible or even something else but I'm almost certain it's all linked. I've heard that hair loss can be caused by your hair follicles response to testosterone. Hope this helps in some way

Whatever you do, do not do braids at this time because your hair is weak and the pulling will make you lose more hair. Best course of treatment is to use Motions(yellow %26amp; purple products) Critical Protection Repair. Some call it CPR. Use the shampoo %26amp; conditioner. The product gurantees to stop breaking hair after the first use. From experience I know it works. Use regularly because it coats your hair.
